Same Sex Weddings Los Angeles Wedding Photographer - Los Angeles Wedding, Mitzvah & Portrait Photographer - Next Exit Photography

Next Exit Photography has always been fortunate to have the best clients on the face of the earth. No, really, the best possible clients EVER. I know—we checked. Since we began our company in 2003, we have also enjoyed a very diverse client pool. We get everyone, from all walks of life, every culture, all orientations and frankly, we love it. It’s what keeps us coming back week after week. So, with the amazing SCOTUS ruling only weeks behind us, we thought we’d feature on the Next Exit Photography Blog, one of our more recent same sex weddings which took place this summer at the glorious Rancho Del Cielo overlooking the ocean in Malibu. Take a look at the same sex wedding photography and read about Danny and Garrett’s wedding in their own words.

How was your vision created?
We really wanted to let the venue set the tone. We got married at Rancho Del Cielo, a 19-acre olive farm in the hills above Malibu, overlooking the ocean. There was so much natural beauty to the location that we really wanted to be showcased, and Adi, having shot several weddings there before, was the perfect choice. He knew all of the corners of the property that were going to give us the best shots possible.

Did you have any unique traditions or wedding details that stand out?
It was important for us to make our wedding feel special and unique to who we were. When we discussed decor, we wanted a rustic garden vibe that was simple yet elegant, and decided on a slight nautical theme which informed our blue/gold color scheme. Danny made the centerpieces himself, spending several weeks building the wood bases and planting the succulents. Garrett worked with our friend and graphic designer Paul Mendoza, who focused on the design and construction of small cloth bound books that served as our invitations and set the tone for all of the other design elements — name cards, menus, programs — the day of.

Favorite moment from your wedding day?
It’s tough to pick a favorite moment from our wedding day, but we were definitely very emotional during our first dance, and especially towards the end when we asked our guests to join us on the dance floor. Being surrounded by family and friends meant a lot to us.

The SCOTUS ruling?
When we sat down to discuss the ceremony, we agreed that not only did we want our friend Amy to marry us, and we wanted her to become deputized for the day and marry us as a representative of California. We knew that we were incredibly lucky to live in a state that recognizes our marriage and it was great to see, a little over a month later, that because of the SCOTUS ruling it’s now recognized nation wide.
