Bar & Bat Mitzvahs - FAQ

Bar/Bat/B'nai/B'not Mitzvah Photography FAQ

Who is Next Exit?

West Los Angeles based wife and husband photographers Cat and Adi Benner were both Bat and Bar Mitzvahed in the 1980s and wished that their parents had hired better photographers. Next Exit is widely known for their emotional photographic style, exquisite portraiture, authentic photojournalism, and also for a determined commitment throughout the entire working relationship to deliver masterfully craftsman heirloom products that will last generations to come. Their highly experienced team of artists will not only ensure that they capture your unique personalities but also the most intimate, genuine, and celebratory moments of your day. Next Exit has embraced this mantra since opening their award-winning studio in 2003: "No moment missed, no detail overlooked."

Do you photograph Reform Bar Mitzvah, Conservative Bar Mitzvahs, Orthodox Bar Mitzvahs, and Reconstructionist Bar Mitzvahs?

Yes. Our team has two decades of experience photographing every kind of Jewish service, including progressive, diverse, and strictly observant Orthodox and everything in between and beyond. We are familiar with the most religious customs, rules, and restrictions. As Jewish owners, Cat and Adi welcome opportunities from every sect of the Jewish spectrum. We photograph both Ashkenazi and Sephardic families.

What is included?

Two lead photographers, full service and event day coverage based on your determined schedule, a personalized and password protected online image sharing gallery, all your beautifully edited watermark-free high-resolution files, and an heirloom craftsmen album. Our full-service studio offers custom fine art printing and a wide range of heirloom photographic products. Every single image file that you receive will be edited individually and ready for your own personal printing when you receive your complete proof collection. We also offer pre-mitzvah family photo sessions, grandparent albums, and Shabbat dinner coverage for an additional fee. At your event, we will document your family history using a "must-take" list provided by you. We will guide you through the scheduling process and will be available to you for vendor recommendations and additional event day guidance.

Services, Pricing, and Packages?

We have packages that come in all shapes and sizes. We know, we know, that you really want us to tell you how much we charge here… But, no two events are the same, and so we believe in creating a custom experience for every client that books us. Packages are based on the event size and location (local or destination), the number of hours required for photography coverage, and the size of your heirloom album. Please email Cat@nextexitphotography.com to set up a chat to discuss pricing and customize a quote that is perfect for you.

What makes you different from all the other photographers we found?

Having committed to photographing the most legendary occasions, meaningful moments, and epically produced parties in the Los Angeles event industry full time for almost two decades, we feel that our experience sets us apart from most other photographers in our community. We are passionate about delivering the most exclusive and heirloom photographic products to every one of our clients. Our process is approachable, and we are very easy to work with. If you feel like we are a good match and you love our style, let's set up a conversation over the phone, a Zoom, or an in-person meeting at the West Los Angeles Studio.

Do you offer pre-mitzvah family photo sessions?

Of course! Our pre-event family portrait session allows your children (and even you, the parents!) to settle those butterflies and learn how to work the camera before showtime. Call it a "training day" if you must. You will develop a rapport with the Next Exit team as they follow you around for an hour or two in the urban streets of Downtown LA, twirling under the elm trees at a local Westside park, playing in the sand under the Santa Monica Pier, or even your own backyard! Sure, we'll ask you to do strange and crazy things, like hug and cuddle each other, but you'd do that anyway. Trust us, it is so worth it!

What types of camera equipment do you use?

Our top of the line, professional-grade photography gear is continuously updated and serviced throughout the year. We rely on Pro Nikon bodies and an arsenal of the best Nikon lenses in the world. We also own the latest and greatest flashes and a bevy of softboxes, umbrellas, and light sticks. We are ready and experienced for ANY lighting situation and challenge, from dark or dim temples and ballrooms, to industrial event spaces and farmhouses, and even in your own backyard.

Will somebody answer the phone if I call the studio?

If we aren't schlepping our kids to soccer practice or piano lessons, we'd love to chat on the phone Monday through Friday from 10am-5pm. If we miss you for some reason, please send over an email and we will respond as soon as we can.

Do you photograph zoom mitzvahs, micro mitzvahs, mini mitzvahs, small backyard mitzvahs?

Of course! We love small, intimate events. Just because there are fewer guests and perhaps a more modest budget, doesn't mean that you don't deserve the very best event photography in the world! Whether it's just the immediate family, grandparents, or close cousins and maybe a few friends, Next Exit Photography would be honored to photograph your uniquely private day and exceptional moments. Special 2020 Summer/Fall/Winter rates are available.

Do you offer incentives or discounts for off-season or last-minute events?

Yes! Please reach out to cat@nextexitphotography.com, and let's CHAT! Xoxo
