Bar/Bat/B'nai/B'not Mitzvah Photography FAQ

Who is Next Exit?

West Los Angeles based photographers Cat and Adi Benner were Bat and Bar Mitzvahed in the 1980s and wish that their parents had hired better photographers. And… they happen to be the parents of 2 Mitzvah-aged kiddos themselves. Next Exit Photography is considered the #1 all-around and most experienced option for Los Angeles Jewish Families. Next Exit is widely celebrated for their emotional photographic style, exquisite portraiture, authentic photojournalism, and for a determined commitment throughout the entire working relationship to deliver masterfully crafted heirloom products that will last generations to come. Their highly experienced team of artists will not only ensure that they capture your unique personalities but also the most intimate, genuine, and celebratory moments of your day. Next Exit has embraced this mantra since opening their award-winning studio in 2003: "No moment missed, no detail overlooked.”

Do you photograph Reform Bar Mitzvah, Conservative Bar Mitzvahs, Orthodox Bar Mitzvahs, and Reconstructionist Bar Mitzvahs?

Yes. Our team are experts in Jewish traditions and have two decades of experience photographing every kind of Jewish simcha including: Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist, Modern Orthodox, as well as progressive, diverse and strictly observant. We are highly experienced in the most religious customs, rules, and restrictions and enjoy working with both Ashkenazi and Sephardic families.

Pricing and Packages?

We have B’Nei Mitzvah photography packages that come in all shapes and sizes. We know that you really want us to tell you how much we charge here and now… But, no two events are the same. We believe in creating a custom experience for every family that works with us. Packages are based on the event size and location (local or destination), the number of hours required for photography coverage, and the size of your heirloom album. Please email Cat@nextexitphotography.com to set up a chat to discuss pricing and customize a quote that is perfect for you.

We will guide you through the event day scheduling process and be available to you for vendor recommendations and additional event day guidance.

Do you offer Pre-Mitzvah family portrait sessions and supplementary event photography?

Of course! Our signature “Get to Know You” family portraits session allows your children (and even you, the parents!) to settle those butterflies and also learn how to act in front of the camera before the big day. You will develop a rapport with the Next Exit team as they follow you around for an hour or so twirling under the elm trees at a local Westside park, playing in the sand under the Santa Monica Pier, or even your own backyard! Sure, we'll ask you to do strange and crazy things, like hug and cuddle and laugh at each other, but you'd do that anyway. Trust us, it is so worth it! We also and also Shabbat Dinner or Sunday Brunch photography coverage for an additional fee.

What makes you different from all the other photographers we found?

Having committed to photographing the most legendary occasions, meaningful moments, and epic parties in the Los Angeles event industry full-time for two decades, we feel that our experience sets us apart from other photographers in our community. We are passionate about delivering the most comprehensive event and portrait coverage along with exclusive photographic products and impeccable service to every one of our clients.

Do you photograph smaller more intimate Bar and Bat Mitzvahs?

Of course! We love small, intimate events. Just because there are fewer guests and perhaps a more modest budget doesn't mean that you don't deserve the very best event photography in the world! Next Exit Photography would be honored to photograph your exceptional moments on your uniquely private day regardless of the event size.

What types of camera equipment do you use?

We rely on a suitcase full of Pro Nikon bodies and an arsenal of the best Pro Nikon lenses in the business. Our top of the line, professional-grade photography gear is continuously updated and serviced throughout the year. We also own the latest and greatest flashes and a bevy of softboxes, umbrellas, and light sticks. We are ready and experienced for ANY lighting situation and challenge, from dark or dim temples and ballrooms, to industrial event spaces and farmhouses, and even in your own backyard.

Do you offer incentives or discounts for off-season or last-minute events?

Yes! Special Fall/Winter and last-minute rates are available. Please reach out to cat@nextexitphotography.com, and let's CHAT!

Will somebody answer the phone if I call the studio?

We’d love to chat Monday through Friday from 10am-5pm. If we miss you for some reason (perhaps we are shlepping the kids to soccer practice or on the other line), please send over an email and we will respond as soon as we can. If you feel like we are a good match, let's set up a conversation over the phone, a Zoom, or even an in-person meeting at the West Los Angeles Studio!
